BUYERS in the United States are continuing to respond in numbers to the progeny of Kentucky Derby hero Big Brown and the established sire, Congrats.
Owners, trainers and bloodstock traders took full advantage of the opportunities son offer at t5his week’s Fasig-Tipton NY Bred Preferred Yearling Sale at America’s east coast.
A chestnut filly by Congrats out of the unraced One Wise Cowgirl sold for US$105,000 while a Big Brown filly from a five-times winning Regal Classic mare, Baroness, fetched US$135,000.
“Big Brown’s first Australian bred foals go to yearling sales in 2013 and the way they have sold in the US – up to US$1.2m – and more importantly, what they are doing on the track is an obvious endorsement of the stallion’s talent,” says Vinery’s Conor Phelan.
“Congrats’ first foals are arriving at the moment, all the while his US progeny are bagging races on a very regular basis. He has sired 3 Grade One winners from his 22 stakeswinners to establish himself as one of the most promising young sires in America.
“He has covered full books since he arrived here at Scone and I imagine the sky is the limit for him,” Phelan added.
