Vinery sire Myboycharlie has capped a career-best year by easily winning the French 2YO sires’ premiership for 2016.
Myboycharlie (Ire) sired 17 individual juvenile winners of 22 races for earnings of €474,302. He was crowned champion in all three categories and claimed the prizemoney title well ahead of fellow champion sires Invincible Spirit (€403,375) and Galileo (€388,646).
His grey colt Greyway led the way with a Chantilly double in October – November following a fourth in the G3 Prix Thomas Bryon at Saint-Cloud.
Elsewhere in Europe, Myboycharlie sired another 5 juvenile winners with a highlight being Landfall’s G3 Golden Fleece Stakes victory at Leopardstown.
Myboycharlie’s world-wide appeal as a sire follows a successful racing career with trainer Tommy Stack. He won the G3 Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh and G1 Prix Morny at Deauville – the latter confirming his rating as Champion French 2YO in 2007.
“He’s owned in Australia and began shuttling here in 2009,” Vinery’s Conor Phelan said. “He reverse-shuttled from the English National Stud the following year before transferring to France.
“He stayed at Vinery this time last year – it was his first break in the northern hemisphere since 2010.”
Myboycharlie flew out to Normandy on December 19 and is assured of a big book at Haras de Mezeray following his successes in 2016.
“He had a career-best year in Europe and Australia,” Phelan said on Sunday morning. “His Group 1 winning mare Euro Charline sold to Katsumi Yoshida for 750,000gns at Tattersalls last month and she will be covered by Deep Impact at Shadai Farm in Japan.
“His first Australian Group 1 winner Peggy Jean sold for $1 million at the Magic Millions National Sale in June and then Jameka completed a Group 1 double in the Victorian Oaks and Caulfield Cup.”
Myboycharlie (Danetime) is also gunning more Group 1 success with his promising Kiwi filly Florence Hill. Trainer Richard Collett is setting her for an autumn campaign that will climax in either the NZ Derby or NZ Oaks.
