MOSSMAN’S current outstanding two-year-old crop has delivered its first black-type performer after debutante Dinner Date was placed in today’s Listed VRC Soar Power Stakes (1000m) to kick start Melbourne Cup day.

Dinner Date was bred by Gerry Harvey who handed the filly to Hall of fame trainer David Hayes after she failed to meet her reserve at the Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling sale.

Dinner Date is out of the Rory’s Jester mare, Quaglino, who is a half-sister to the dam of Group One winning 2YO, Pressday.

Mossman has fired out of the blocks this season with consecutive Saturday metropolitan winning 2YO’s last month namely Double Impact and Racing Stripes as well as Hayes galloper Moscow who was placed on debut at Morphettville.

“Mossman sired a dozen 2YO’s winner last season, five of which were either stakeswinners or stakes-placed,” Vinery’s Conor Phelan said.

Among those is Stirling Grove who won the Fulham Park Plate by nine-lengths at his first start.

The South Australian galloper is due to line up later today in the VRC Schweppes Tonic (1000m).
