MOSSMAN two-year-old Mafia Miss took the first step on her Golden Slipper Stakes campaign while in action during an important set of trials held at Randwick last Friday.

The Grahame Begg-trained youngster strode out boldly over the last 150m hitting the line with plenty of purpose to finish on the heels of the placegetters.

Mafia Miss was tipped out after finishing a nose second in the Gimcrack Stakes where she drew the outside barrier and came from last at the top of the straight.
Begg elected to bypass last month’s Magic Millions in favour of the Slipper and its prestigious lead-ups.

“At the end of the day, if she can win the Sweet Embrace or the Magic Night, it would look better on her resume than the Magic Millions even though it’s worth more money wise,” Begg said.
