TRAINER Todd Howlett concedes that taking on More Than Ready filly Defiant Dame this Sunday at Wyong may be a monumental task but is confident that Excites debutante Deelites will acquit herself well.

Deelites got her first taste of Defiant Dame’s class when they met in an 800m trial at Wyong last Friday.  Deelites finishing second albeit by 6.5lens to the Rosehill filly with another 3.5lens to the rest of the trial.

The pair will square up again should Deelites press on to this weekend’s $200,000 Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic (1000m).

“Deelites trialled quite good behind a smart horse,” Howlett said,”I think Defiant Dame had a bit up the sleeve. She was pretty impressive.

“We were sitting just off her at her girth early in the trial but Defiant Dame kicked away and seemed to do it pretty easily.

“She is going to be tough to beat at Wyong for sure.”

Ironically Deelites is a daughter of freshman sire Excites who stands alongside Australia’s twice Champion Sire of 2YO’s and Defiant Dame’s sire, More Than Ready at Vinery.

She was offered as part of the Vinery draft on the Gold Coast in 2010 and has come to hand quickly.

“She is a nice big filly and a racey type,” Howlett explained.

“At this stage I’d like to take it easy with her and give her a bit of confidence.”

Excites made the perfect start to his career at stud siring the impressive Gold Coast winner Amber’s Crown from his very first starter.

The stallion was a Group One winner at two when taking out the coveted AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at only his third start in a race.

Excites (ex Staging) trained on at three to place second in the VATC Caulfield Guineas Gr.1(1600m).

Deelites dam, Mrs Dee, is a half-sister to stakeswinning sprinters Zariz and Electrifying.
