Myboycharlie colt Greed Is Good has looked a progressive sort this year and he lived up to that rating with a record-breaking victory at Ripon on Saturday.
Greed Is Good (2c Myboycharlie – Merch Rhyd-Y-Grug by Sabrehill) won his maiden at Thirsk in August and then managed to get pocketed in a six-horse field at Kempton on September 11.
He chased the leaders at Ripon and made smooth headway passing the furlong under new jockey Phillip Makin. He ran on strongly to land the Land Rover Nursery (1600m) by three lengths from Fair Flutter (Manduro) and Xanthos (Medicean).
Greed Is Good clocked 1.38.77s which is a new juvenile course-record for 1600m at Ripon. He is trained by Karl Burke after changing hands for 49,000 pounds (AUD 84,820) at the Doncaster Bloodstock 2YO Sale in April.
Burke trains out of Spigot Lodge at Middleham in Yorkshire. The stable is steeped in racing history having been named after 1821 St Leger winner Jack Spigot. The 1849 English Derby winner The Flying Dutchman was also trained out of the original premises.
Charlie Boy kept the flag flying for Vinery sire Myboycharlie on Sunday with an encouraging fourth in the G3 Guineas Prelude at Caulfield. He settled in the second-half of the field and will appreciate an extra furlong in the G1 Caulfield Guineas in a fortnight.
The Triple Crown Syndicate that races Charlie Boy are hoping he can emulate Starspangledbanner who finished fourth in the Guineas Prelude before taking out the big one in 2009.
Myboycharlie (Danetime) was a 2YO Group 1 winner of the 2007 Prix Morny at Deauville and is standing at Vinery for a $16,500 (inc gst) service fee.
