BIG Brown filly Spirit of Joy showed herself to be on target for a debut win after posting a super impressive 4 length win at the Rosehill trials last Tuesday morning.

The Gai Waterhouse trained 2YO left her rivals standing with a short, sharp burst of acceleration inside the final 200m which saw her streak away for the most emphatic of victories.

Spirit Of Joy is eligible to part in the $2m Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) scheduled for January 8 given she is a graduate of Baramul Stud’s 2013 draft.

The daughter of Elusive Quality mare Ouija Board was knocked down to Gai Waterhouse/James Harron Bloodstock for $150,000.

Spirit Of Joy is a grand-daughter of VRC Talindert Stakes winner Dansino and is part of the celebrated “Leica’ clam.

Big Brown has made a fabulous start to his international career as a stire with 48 winners from 90 runners including stakeswinners Darwin, Bella Castani, Brown Almighty and Shades of Sugar.

His stakesplaced grouping includes the Japanese Derby Gr.1 placegetter Apollo Sonic.

Meanwhile back in the USA, Big Brown’s family accrued two new stakeswinners at the same course on the same day.

Both horses – Sky’s Goldmaker and Broadway Missile – are 2YO’s out of separate half-sisters to Big Brown’s dam, Mien.

Mien has also proven to be a fabulous producer, not only did she throw the great Big Brown himself but she is also the dam of multiple stakes-placegetter Afonso de Sousa who is housed at Aiden O’Brien’s Ballydoyle complex in Ireland.

Big Brown’s first four dams have thrown at least one stakeswinner or stakeplaced horse underpinning his stallion credentials.
