EXCITES gelding Excites Zelady was back into the winner’s stall for the first time since taking out the Group 3 SAJC Breeders’ Plate when he arrived in time to take out the SAJC Medallion Homes Handicap (1400m) in Adelaide yesterday.

The locally trained galloper took his tally of wins to three from 10 starts and sent his earnings past the $125,000 mark at the same time.

After settling midfield, apprentice Jordan Childs stayed patient and let him have the last crack at them, the Excites gelding lifting to overhaul Murtle Turtle ($5.50) in the shadows of the post.

“He was super, the writing was on the wall – he ran pretty sharp sectionals last start,” Bieg said.

“I thought it was time to take the weight off and let him hit the line and get his confidence back.

“He is clearly a better horse than that field. There were no other Group horses in the field.

“We’ll probably give him one more over a mile against the older horses then tip him out.

“When we bring him back we’ll look at running in the Port Adelaide Guineas into the SA Derby and see how far we can push him.”

Excites Zelady is from Group 1 winning 2YO Excites’ second crop and was purchased by his trainer Chris Bieg at the Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale in 2012 for $27,000.
His dam, Zelady, is a daughter of Zeditave and won 7 races and $135,000 including two at Moonee Valley and one at Sandown-Hillside.
All five of her foals that have raced so far have won at last one race led of course the stakeswiner, Excites Zelady.

Excites Zelady is one of 48 winners sired by Excites (DanewinStaging) along with early stakeswinners Scream Machine and Flag Officer.
Excites also provided this year’s Scone Inglis 2YO Challenge winner Sweet Serendipity.
