Vinery champion More Than Ready registered his 103rd stakes winner with Funfair in the Colleen Stakes (L) and unbeaten Kauai Katie recorded his biggest success to date as a broodmare sire in the G2 Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga.

Funfair (2f More Than Ready – Fleuron by Distant View) took command at the top of the straight and surged clear to score by more than three lengths. She had won on debut by a similar margin at Belmont Park last month.

“She’s a really special horse,” jockey Joe Bravo said after the filly clocked 56.60s for 1000m. “You had to be impressed with that effort.”

The Kentucky bred filly is trained by Christophe Clement for owner-breeder Catherine Wills. Her dam Fleuron is a half-sister to the Wills bred Dynever (Dynaformer) who was G1 placed in a Dubai World Cup and Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Wills bred Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Furthest Land (Smart Strike) from Fleuron’s half-sister Flagrant (Rahy).

Kauai Katie is also unbeaten after two starts following a near three-length victory in the G2 Adirondack Stakes (1300m). She had blitzed a maiden field by 12 lengths on the opening day of the Saratoga meeting.

Kauai Katie (2f Malibu Moon – More Than Pretty by More Than Ready) is trained by Todd Pletcher for Stonestreet Stables. She was bred by Spendthrift Farm and cost $490,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Florida 2YO Sale earlier this year.

“She’s a very talented filly,” jockey Rosie Napravnik said. “I was riding with a lot of confidence and I had a lot of horse underneath me. The sky’s the limit and, hopefully, she will stay healthy and we can carry on with the good races coming up.”

Her dam More Than Pretty has been a regular visitor to Malibu Moon (A P Indy) at Spendthrift Farm. She was a Listed winner of the 2006 Open Mind Stakes at Churchill Downs before retiring to stud.

More Than Ready began shuttling to Vinery in 2001 and there have only been 40 starters from his Aussie bred mares to date. Leading the way are stakes performed fillies Comearoundsundown (Not A Single Doubt) and Amber’s Crown (Excites).

More Than Ready (Southern Halo) will stand for a $121,000 (inc gst) fee at Vinery in 2012 whilst one of A.P Indy’s hottest young son’s Congrats will cover another full book at a fee of $22,000 inc GST.
