CONGRATS three-year-old I’m Steppin’ It Up took his earnings closer to US$400,000 and recorded his second stakes win when taking out the Grade 3 Kent Stakes (1 1/18m) at Delaware overnight.
Jockey Jeremy Rose sent I’M Steppin’ It Up to the lead early in the race setting up a four length lead into the final turn.
Despite doing all the early work, the pair cruised down to wire with a two-length margin over odds-on favourite King Congie with Fire With Fire back in third.
“He is a nice horse and has been good but he’s just growing up,” said winning trainer Tony Pecoraro.
“I am not sure where we are going next, but he is a Florida-bred so we would like to aim for the Sunshine Millions, but I am not sure where we are going to go from here.”
I’m Steppin’ It Up is out of Cindy Woo Who, a daughter of the Kentucky Derby winner Thunder Gulch who stood in Australia from 1996 until 2003.
I’m Steppin’ It Up’s previous stakeswin was in the Chief Of Tamanaco Stakes at Belmont Park, the scene of his third placing in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes as a two-year-old.
The colt is one of 23 stakeshorses sired by Congrats whose tally includes three Grade 1 winners led by crack mare Turbulent Descent who has won three majors so far.
