AFONSO De Sousa, a half brother to the mighty racehorse and red hot juvenile sire Big Brown, claimed his first taste of black-type when placed in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes (1400m) in Ireland this week.

The Aidan O’Brien trained two-year-old has raced four times for a win and two thirds, the most of recent of which is another compliment to his dam, Mien.

“Not many mares ever through one as good as Big Brown and it’s a credit to her that she’s followed up with what looks to be a lovely horse for the UK classic next year,” Vinery’s Conor Phelan.

Big Brown’s own stud career has started exceedingly well with the Kentucky Derby/Preakness hero delivering five winner so far including the recent stakeswinner, Brown Almighty, who led throughout to claim the Louisiana Sunny’s Halo Stakes.
