VINERY’S new stallion, Big Brown has an impeccable racetrack record and his pedigree just gets better with U.S filly Queen of the Creek claiming the Riskaverse Stakes (Turf) yesterday.
Whether on turf of dirt, as a 2yo or against older horses as a 3yo, Big Brown was unrivalled in ability on the racetrack. Now retired and serving mares at Vinery in Australia and Three Chimneys in the U.S, it is Big Brown’s pedigree that is keeping tongues talking.
The latest Stakes winner to highlight the family pedigree and turf ability is 3yo filly, Queen of the Creek, a half sister to Mien, the dam of Big Brown. Queen of the Creek made nearly all the running before effortlessly cruising home to a three and a half length romp in Thursday’s $70,000 Riskaverse Stakes (Listed) at Saratoga.
Trained by Tom Proctor, the Theatrical (Ire) filly made it two consecutive wins in dashing style, covering the mile on firm turf in 1:33.94. Ultimate Class finished second, followed by Doe Run in third.
Queen of the Creek was sent to the front early by Julien Leparoux and led the nine other three-year-old fillies through a quarter-mile in :23.58, a half-mile in :46.76, and six furlongs in 1:10.14 before easing to victory.
A $140,000 Keeneland September Yearling, Queen Of The Creek had previously shown great potential finishing 3rd in the Arlington American One Thousand Guineas.
Queen of the Creek has now won 4 from 7 starts to reward Australian part-owners Patinack Farm and will continue to race on with further Stakes races in mind.
