BENICIO gelding, Larry’s Ready kicked off the new season on the best possible note for his Classic winning sire with a sterling come from behind win in today’s opening event.

The Neil Godbolt trained 3yo gave his rivals a headstart before handing them a comphrehensive beating in the Westlawn Finance Handicap (1200m) at Coff’s Harbour.

“Larry’s Raedy missed the start by about two-lenghts and was still about that far behind the second last horse around the turn but once he balanced, the race was over very quickly and he cleared out to win by over a length,” Vinery’s Conor Phelan explained.
“He won his maiden by over six-lengths as a juvenile so obviously he’s a pretty smart horse and like his sire has a very bright future as he has come back in great order”

Benicio won as a 2YO by 4-lens before training on soon after to win the Group One VRC Derby.

“We have always expected that Benicio’s progeny would excel as 3YO’s and it’s a most encouraging sign that horses like Larry’s Ready can carry their form over from their 2YO campaign into the new season. I think you’ll see a few more, such as John O’Shea’s Private Label and Mick Price’s Cuban Sunday, do that in 2010/11.”
