Consistent three year-old Tennessee Hussy sustained Husson’s excellent strike-rate this month with an overdue victory at Canterbury on Wednesday.
The Marc Connors trained filly charged through a narrow gap in the straight to take out the Ranvet Hcp (1200m) by a half-length from I Am Zelady (I Am Invincible). “It’s a pleasure to ride one for Marc,” jockey Brenton Avdulla said after unsaddling his 100th winner for the season. “He hasn’t got many horses but he’s done a great job with the team.”
Tennessee Hussy deserved a change of luck after finishing within a length of the winner at 6 of her last 7 starts. Her dam Tennessee Red (Red Ransom) is an unraced half-sister to G3 AJC Light Fingers Hcp winner Trezevant and she has a yearling filly by Husson and a weanling colt by Casino Prince.
Husson has sired the winners of 15 races in the last month and Avdulla had piloted his class mare Peron for a late-closing fifth in the G1 Tatt’s Tiara on Saturday. The winter spike has improved his seasonal stats to 71 wins highlighted by Lucky Hussler’s Group 1 victory in the MVRC William Reid Stakes.
He can add more black type in July with Pop ‘N’ Scotch (SCTC Queensland Cup) and Husson Eagle (VRC Creswick Stakes).
Vinery will stand Husson for a $13,200 (inc GST) fee in 2015.
