ONE punter stands to win a quarter of a million dollars should Vinery Stud resident Benicio sire more winners than any other First Season Sire in 2009/10.
Sportingbet received the confident $2500 wager at odds of $101 in favour of Benicio at the end of August shortly after first markets went up.
Since then, Benicio’s first trial runner, Benavarro, cleaned up his older rivals in an 880m Heat and is now being aimed at NSW’s first 2YO race of the season at Tamworth on October 2.
“Benicio won the VRC Victoria Derby but is a son of Australia’s twice Champion Sire of 2YO’s, More Than Ready, and his grand-dam is Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay,” Vinery’s Adam White said.
“Benicio won a race by 4.5 lengths as a two-year-old himself, he covered 100 mares in his first season and his progeny are in going to get every chance under the care of a variety of trainers.”
