SUMMER RICHES FOR PLUCK MARE

Pluck  mare Life On The Wire has stakes races in her sights back home in Tasmania after trouncing her rivals at Sandown on Wednesday.

She crossed from a wide gate to sit outside the leader and then put her rivals to the sword in the Ladbrokes Hcp (1400m).  “She was a bit keen in the first furlong but then relaxed,” apprentice Boris Thornton said.  “I was confident we had them covered and she got the job done in the straight.”

Life On The Wire was having her first start on the mainland for trainer Scott Brunton.  “She’s quite smart but just kept bumping into a freak back home,” Brunton said.  “I knew she would be hard to beat today if she travelled over well and it was a nice ride by Boris.

“Now we’re looking forward to the Tassie Summer carnival.”

Shouldering 61kg less Thornton’s claim, Life On The Wire recorded her 5th win in 11 starts and she’s also been runner-up to Hot Dipped in the Tasmanian Guineas (1600m) and Northwest Passage in the Hobart Guineas (2100m).

Her long-term assignments at the summer carnival will be the Bow Mistress Trophy-Gr.3 and Vamos Stakes-Gr.3 in February.

The Bow Mistress will be run a day before Pluck’s next crop of yearlings parade for the Classic Sale at the new Inglis Riverside Stables.

First to go under the hammer is a half-brother to boom Hong Kong galloper Nothingilikemore (Lot 466).  Pluck’s fillies include a half-sister to Melbourne stakes winners Stokehouse & Malasun (Lot 513) and Dinner Date (Lot 800).
