Grey gelding Phrases kept the till ticking over for Vinery sire Casino Prince in the $80,000 Port Macquarie Cup (2000m) on Friday.

Phrases (4g Casino Prince – Melody by Stravinsky) arrived in time under a well-judged ride by Andrew Gibbons.  In front of a sizeable Cup-day crowd, he defeated the favourites Epic Terra and Poste Restante in a close finish.

The Bindi Cheers trained gelding was bred by Patinack Farm and changed hands for just $5,000 at Nathan Tinkler’s dispersal sale conducted by Magic Millions in January 2013.  He had been placed in the Taree, Lismore and Ballina Cups before a last start second to Assertive Billy in the Port Macquarie Cup Prelude.

His dam Melody (NZ) was bred by Sir Patrick Hogan at Cambridge Stud and she has yearling filly by Vinery sire Onemorenomore.  Her only other foal to race is Adelaide winning filly Motifs (Fusaichi Pegasus).

Casino Prince (Flying Spur) was Australia’s champion first and second-season sire.  He stands at Vinery for a $22,000 (inc gst) service fee.
