JUST days after delivering Vinery Stud sire Testa Rossa his 43rd stakeswinner, Newcastle trainer Darren Smith was celebrating another big win with via stablemate Whisperossa who took out the Magic Millions Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast.

Smith has crafted a clear affinity with offspring Testa Rossa highlighted by a much deserved Stakes win for Testarhythm who blew his rivals away in last Thursday’s Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford.

 

Whisperossa meanwhile took his earnings close to $200,000 with his come-from-behind win in the Plate yesterday and keeping his grand strike rate (15s 5w) in tact.

“It’s a great thrill,” Smith said. “We set the horse for this race
“He went and had a trial at Randwick the other day and it was a sensational trial and Glyn (Schofield) was quite confident to come up and ride him.”

“He’s an honest horse. He was a little unlucky at his past couple of runs. It’s a great thrill to win a race on a great day.”
