COMPETITION for the offspring of current Vinery stallions More Than Ready, Mossman and Testa Rossa reached extraordinary levels at the Magic Millions Yearling sale held on the Gold Coast this past week.

Two time Magic Millions (and Golden Slipper and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile) sire More Than Ready was the most heavily represented sire at the Gold Coast with 43 yearlings catalogued.

Minus three withdrawals, that left 40 of which 33 changed hands for a total of $6,285,015 at an average price of $190,455.

Those who came forward to buy a More Than Ready included Gai Waterhouse, David Hayes, Lee Freedman, John O’Shea, Gerald Ryan, Danny O’Brien, Anthony Cummings, Katsumi Yoshida, BC3 Thoroughbreds, Denise Martin (Star Thoroughbreds), Paul Perry, Ingham Racing, Dynamic Syndications, James Bester, Neville Parhnam, Mark Kavanagh, the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Rick Connolly, Ron Steele and DGR Thoroughbreds (for Bart Cummings).

”That is a very impressive line-up of trainers,” says Vinery Stud’s Adam White.

”As I said earlier, it is imperative that stallion’s progeny get into good stables and you wouldn’t see a better bunch of trainers than these. It’s fantastic and a will give all these horses their opportunity to succeed.

”Vendors as well are delighted I know, it shows that if they send their mare to More Than Ready then all the big names will react. It’s most heartening.”

Yearlings by associate sire Testa Rossa were also in heavy demand.

From his 12 that went through the ring, 11 were sold under the hammer.

”They averaged just short of $100,000 which is a great result for vendors. The Testa’s have always sold particularly well at the Gold Coast where he won the Magci Millions but the competition for his horses and his continued success leads me to conclude that he will have a big Premier sale this year.”

Speaking of big years, that’s exactly what Mossman has had with 8 SWer’s in 2010 and it didn’t go un-noticed at the Gold Coast where all five of his yearlings were sold.

”Bob Ingham paid $120,000 for one, John Wallace $100,000 for another which is essentially five times his 2008 service fee when these yearlings were conceived,” White noted.

”His averaged $72,600 at this sale, which gives great hope and encouragement for the rest of the sales year not only for Mossman for the rest of our stallions.”
