Sugar Rush had already booked her spot on the starting blocks in the Gimcrack courtesy of a brilliant trial win at Randwick on September 10.
She didn’t have to win on Monday – but sometimes you can’t help it, you’re just that good.
Sugar Rush, who was bred by John Singleton, was sold for $690,000 at the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast.
She is by Waterhouse favourite More Than Ready out of Lee Freedman’s up and going 2Y0 Sugar Babe who ran fifth in her Magic Millions quest.
There is every chance that Sugar Rush will head to Queensland herself come January and potentially give Waterhouse her fifth Magic Millions win.
Australia’s accepted two-year-old queen, Waterhouse was well represented across the board and no doubt pleased with the efforts of More Joyous’ little sister, MOST JOYFUL (3rd), and three-quarter-brother WAR who was most impressive winning his heat over stablemate MR JACKMAN.
The last horse that requires special mention is HARRY HOTSPUR who was for mine, the best of the males and second only to Sugar Rush in the 11 heats.
