MOSSMAN gelding Under The Eiffel left bookmakers bruised and battered after scoring a brilliant win in the final race on Cup day at Flemington yesterday.
The Tony Vasil trained four-year-old opened up at $4.40 before a flood of money saw his price slashed to $3.90 favourite.
Under The Eiffel sat off a hot speed set by Sydney-sider Hood finishing all over the top of the visitor to score by an easy half-length with Testa Rossa son, Nicastro, back in third.
Vasil’s gelding won 5 of his 13 starts with 3 placings including a second in the Group 2 MRC D’Urban Stakes and bronze in the Sunshine Coast Guineas.
”He’s a very good horse who has come back well,” says Vinery’s Conor Phelan.
”His bolted in at Seymour first-up, he’d obviously come on again, and I guess that’s why there was so much money for him yesterday.”
Meanwhile, Mossman stallion Love Conquers All gets his chance for a well deserved Group 1 win when he contests the feature Emirates Stakes (1600m) on Saturday to wrap up the spring carnival.
