HOT on the heels of Charlie Boy’s acclaimed Rosehill debut win in Sydney last month, another first crop son of former French Champion 2yo Myboycharlie has emerged victorious on debut with a dominant win.

The appropriately named Chasing Charlie had his rivals doing exactly that by racing clear by five lengths in the middle stages before claiming a comfortable victory today in the Slickpix Plate (1000m) at Canberra.

Chasing Charlie is the third Australian runner of Myboycharlie, a son of Danetime that shuttles to Haras de Mezeray in France following an initial stint at the English National Stud.   Myboycharlie’s first runner was the ultra impressive Sydney winner and Golden Slipper hopeful Charlie Boy and his second runner was last week’s Rosehill placegetter Artistic Lass.

Trained in partnership by Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones, Chasing Charlie ($2.10 fav) made full use of his favourable barrier and surprising speed to immediately put the others on the back foot.
Chasing Charlie was low flying into the turn with his rivals off the bit before dramatically shying away from the fence in the straight.  Jockey Carl Spry managed to straighten his mount and still maintain an easy 2.5-lens advantage crossing the line ahead of Steel Bolt ($8) with Torio Away ($5) a further 3-lens back.

Chasing Charlie was sold to Joseph and Jones Racing for $50,000 at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling sale which makes him eligible to compete in A$5 million William Inglis & Son race series as well as pick up relevant BOBS bonuses along the way.

Chasing Charlie is a son of the talented race mare Sophistocat (by Catrial) who earned $100,500 thanks to a series of victories at Randwick, Warwick Farm and Kensington.
The Kerry Parker trained mare also finished second in the Listed STC Triscay Stakes (1200m) and is a close relation to the Oakleigh Plate hero, Swiss Hero.

“The start the stallion has had is tremendous”, commented Vinery’s Adam White, “To have a couple of winners like Charlie Boy and Chasing Charlie, as well as a promising filly like Artistic Lass all before December is a dream start.”

“Chasing Charlie was ultra impressive in his win,” said White, ” He’s very green and he has a lot to learn but he has a great free running style, very athletic which is a trait of the Myboycharlie’s.”

“But we know there is more coming”.
