NOT since he demolished his rivals to win the 1999 Magic Millions 2YO Classic has Testa Rossa had such an impact on the Gold Coast.
The Vinery Stud resident and persistent Top Ten Sire was in the headlines well before the actual sale began thanks in part to the deeds of his current gun 2YO son Unencumbered.
The Bjorn Baker trained colt was tipped to win the Magic Millions 2YO Classic long ago and he didn’t disappoint his backers emulating his father’s win and will now attempt to join Dance Hero and Phelan Ready as the only horses to complete the MM/Golden Slipper double.
Unencumbered’s racetrack success certainly contributed to Testa Rossa’s outstanding sale-rings results where a dozen yearlings sold at an average of almost $120,000.
Most of Australia’s leading buyers were keen to take a Testa Rossa home from sale; those who managed to do it successfully included Peter Moody, Clarry Conners, Dean Watt/Dynamic Syndications, David Payne, Matthew Smith and Bjorn Baker.
The top priced lot by Testa Rossa was in fact bought by a reknowned international buyer; the HK-based George Moore Bloodstock was obliged to outlay $320,000 for Lot 353 from Vinery (as agent).
The stunning colt is the first foal of Redoute’s Choice mare, Electric Dreams – herself a grand-daughter of the foundation mare Voltage.
Testa Rossa stood the 2013 season for $27,500 inc GST.
