TESTA Rossa son Ranger’s build up to the Perth Cup via the C.B. Cox on Saturday week took another bold step forward with the gelding finishing second in last weekend’s Group 1 WATC Kingston Town Classic Stakes (1800m) at Ascot.
The Grant Williams trained galloper opened his current campaign with wins in the Northerly Stakes L and Lee Steere Stakes Gr.2 before a huge effort after interference in the Railway Stakes Gr.1 over the mile.
”Ranger is building up beautifully for his Perth Cup mission,” says Vinery’s Adam White, ”he ran a great race in the Railway but once he got past the mile for the first time this prep, he really excelled.
”I would imagine based that Ranger’s owners Bob and Sue Peters would be be excited about his chances of winning the Perth Cup this year.
”He seems to have come back a lot stronger this time and will definitely go better than he did last year,” White said.
The Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m) will be run at Ascot on December 31.
