HALL Of Fame trainer Gai Waterhouse has called on her two More Than Ready big guns – More Strawberries and More Joyous – to lead her ‘Ladies’ day’ charge on the Rosehill program tomorrow.
Waterhouse has an awesome array of arsenal to kick start the Golden Slipper carnival of racing including Descarado in the Ranvet Stakes along with More Strawberries and Montana Flyer in the Coolmore Classic.
Gai is in search of her fifth Coolmore Classic tomorrow having won the race previously with Assertive Lass (1997), Vinery’s own Bollinger (2003), Shamekha (2004) and most recently with Tuesday Joy in 2007.
”Fillies have a very good record in the Coolmore Classic, winning five of the last seven, and More Strawberries is going to be right in the finish,” she said.
More Strawberries was beaten by only a neck in the Flight Stakes Gr.1 in the Spring, a race won by More Joyous, but has blinkers on tomorrow and looks ready for her first Group One victory.
Meanwhile, the cream of Australia’s race mare’s, More Joyous is back home after a brilliant win in the Group One MRC Futurity Stakes (1400m) last start.
”More Joyous is flying. I feel she has come back better than ever this preparation and is getting right up there with the best horses I’ve ever trained,” Waterhouse told the Daily telegraph’s Racing Editor Ray Thomas.
In what could be a big day for More Than Ready, Golden Slipper hopeful Elite Falls will start a well backed runner in the Reisling Slipper Stakes.
Currently 19th in the order of entry for the Golden Slipper, the John O’Shea trained 2yo is favoured to go one better than her fast finished second to Satin Shoes last start.
