CONGRATS’ four-times Grade 1 winning daughter Turbulent Descent has been retired.

Bought earlier this year by Coolmore, Turbulent Descent rose to become one of the most talented horses in North America winning majors from age two through to four.

She was also crowned Equal Leading 3YO Filly (sprint) on the World Thoroughbred Rankings in 2011.

“After kicking it around, we felt she was a filly who has accomplished so much, we didn’t feel winning a race like the Sunshine Millions would add any more to her value as a broodmare,” her trainer Todd Pletcher told the Daily Racing Form.  “And we wanted her to retire while she was still healthy and doing well.”

Reports vary but the good looking Congrats mare is likely to be bred to either War Front or Giants Causeway.

“Turbulent Descent was one of four Grade 1 performers out of Congrats’ first crop and she did a lot to help him become the Champion US First Season Sire in 2010,” says Vinery’s Adam White.

“She, and others like her, showed that Congrats was a sire that could through that borderline champion horse and one that could win a Gr.1 as a 2yo then go on with as an older horse with wins Gr.1 wins at 3 and 4”.
