Vinery sire Myboycharlie produced another galloper with Group 1 credentials when his South African filly Mygirldownunder (Aus) spreadeagled a juvenile field at Scottsville on Sunday.
The Gavin van Zyl trained debutante won the Download The SA Racing App Plate (1000m) by more than four lengths from Argentinian-bred Ebtihaal.
“That was a smart win,” van Zyl said after watching his filly give Anton Marcus an armchair ride down the straight course. “She’s a nice sort and I gave her a chance (against Ebtihaal).”
The Mike De Kock trained Ebtihaal started an odds-on favourite after bolting in last month and both fillies will be looking long-term at the G1 Allan Robertson Championship (1200m) back at Scottsville on June 4.
Mygirldownunder (2f Myboycharlie – Nervate by More Than Ready) changed hands for $30,000 at the 2015 Inglis Classic yearling sale. Her dam won at Rosehill and second dam Neerim Star (Fairy King) is a half-sister to NZ-bred South African Champion Grey’s Inn (Zabeel).
Myboycharlie’s Group 1 mare Euro Charline finished second to Very Special in the G2 Balanchine Stakes at Meydan on Thursday evening in readiness for the Dubai World Cup meeting.
“It was a good run first-up after a six-month break,” trainer Marco Botti said. “She was beaten by a very smart filly.”
Botti will have Euro Charline peaking for G1 Dubai Turf (1800m) worth $US6 million on March 26.
Myboycharlie’s Group 1 VRC Oaks winner Jameka will head to Sydney after a close-up fifth in the G1 Australian Guineas on Saturday. “She ran really well,” Damien Oliver said. “We had a tough run from the wide barrier and she just peaked late.”
Jameka holds Group 1 nominations for the Australian Derby and Australian Oaks at Randwick next month.
