It’s anybody’s guess what price the promising filly Peron would have made had owner Nathan Tinkler not decided to withdraw her from the controversial Patinack Farm dispersal however it’s fair to assume the daughter of Husson (ARG) added considerably to her value after earning her first stakes victory in Saturday’s the $100,000 Listed Sky Racing World Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) at Ipswich.
The 3yo filly was following a family tradition as her half-sister Gai Choice (General Nediym) earned her only stakes win in the same race 12 months ago.
In taking her record to six wins from seven starts the John Thompson-trained filly earned a crack at the final Group 1 of the season next week, the Tatts Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm.
Thompson won that race last year with Pear Tart and rates Peron above that filly.
“She’s all class,” Thompson told Sky Racing World. “We’ve always have a big rap on her.
“Class goes along way. She’s a good filly on the way up.
“If she gets there (the Tatts Tiara) in good shape, she’ll be hard to beat.”
Ridden by Michael Cahill, Peron came with a strong finish to defeat Skating On Ice by two lengths with the fast finishing Doubtfilly a half-length back in third.
Consigned by Widden Stud to the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale, Peron was knocked down to Connolly Bloodstock for $80,000.
She is the third foal of the stakes-placed Flying Spur mare Faster Pussycat, a half-sister to the dam of Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed Eagle Falls, out of the multiple stakes-winner Presina (Prego).
Faster Pussycat has an unraced 2yo filly by Northern Meteor named Atmospherical and a yearling filly by the leading first season stallion.
She was bred back to Sepoy last year after missing to Stratum in 2011.
Peron becomes the 8th stakes-winner for Patinack Farm’s Husson (ARG) (Hussonet) and the fifth from his first two Australian crops.
