JUST days after the Australian Grand Prix was run and won, the aptly-named Excites son Schumacher sped away from his rivals to take the checkered flag for the second time in just four career starts.

Trained at Morphettville by Mark Kavanagh, Schumacher was twos-on in the old speak and gave his backers no cause for concern at any stage powering away to set up an emphatic 3.3-lens win at Balaklava.

Schumacher, a member of Excites’ opening crop, has won two of his four starts with two thirds – all of them at Balaklava.

The gelding is out of a handy Lion Hunter mare named Chasseresse who managed to win $105,000 and is from the same family as VRC Derby and Australian Guineas winner, King’s High.
