More Than Ready’s latest sprint queen Samaready is in search of her third Group 1 win when she contests the $502,500 VRC Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington tomorrow.

Whilst More Joyous is still in the headlines for other reasons, More Than Ready mare Samaready is set to return to Group One company yet again in just her tenth career start.

Samaready has won 6 of her 9 starts highlighted by the Blue Diamond Stakes Gr.1 as a 2yo and Moir Stakes Gr.1 first up after a year off due to injury.

Price told AAP that Samaready was primed for her Lightning mission after two pleasing jump-outs in recent weeks at Caulfield.

“She’s perfect. She’s scoping clean. She’s sound and she has still only had nine starts,” Price said.

The Lightning is the first target for Samaready with the Newmarket Handicap, possibly the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley and the Group One TJ Smith Stakes in Sydney on the agenda.

“Sydney holds no fears for her. She’s a Reisling Slipper Trial winner and she ran third in a Golden Slipper so hopefully she can join our Sydney team,” Price said.

“She’s excellent, she looks good, she’s happy in herself, we’ve kept her fresh for the first-up over 1000 (metres), fitness wise I don’t have an issue, she’s ready to go,” Price said.

Samaready has had two jump outs at Caulfield but they have been gentle gallops rather than burnouts according to her trainer.

“She won them both but wasn’t asked to blast away and win them by four or five. I don’t think that’s the way we need to train her,” he said.

“I thought she was a little underdone last time in when she won first-up over 1100 (metres). She’s coming off a shorter break this time so it’s a case of being good enough on the day.

“I couldn’t have her any better, she’s really well. It’s not that complicated down the straight, I reckon she’ll be there a furlong out and we’ll see her go ‘bang’ from there.”
