Truly Ready (NZ) kept her residual value rising with a breakthrough victory at Randwick on Monday.
The More Than Ready filly accelerated from the back-half of the field to win the TAB Quaddie Hcp (1300m) by over a length from Vergara (Snippetson) and Miss Tenpins (Pins). She had claimed a Kembla maiden in October and won again at Newcastle in April.
“Her closing sectionals were quick,” jockey Nash Rawiller said. “It’s her turn of foot that will help her go a long way. And now that we have established her racing pattern, she can be placed to advantage in future.”
Truly Ready (3f More Than Ready – Torlundy by Zabeel) was a $90,000 buy for Champion Thoroughbreds at the 2012 NZB Karaka yearling sale. She was bred by Gerry Harvey and is from a half-sister to G2 Chelmsford Stakes winner Nevis.
Second-dam Tartan Tights (Tights) was a Group 1 winner of the NZ 1000 Guineas and NZ Oaks in 1994-95.
She comes from the same crop and is bred on the same More Than Ready – Zabeel cross as G3 Up & Coming Stakes winner War who has just been signed to stand at Blue Gum Farm.
“Truly Ready has come a long way from her two year-old days when she didn’t show much speed in her work and was immature,” Champion Thoroughbreds director Jason Abrahams said. “Looking at her in the mounting yard at Randwick, she has grown up and out and has a relaxed manner about her racing now. The penny seems to have dropped as to what this racing caper is all about.
“We will keep her fresh and take advantage of the BOBS bonuses until the end of July.”
More Than Ready has sired 110 winners of 165 races this season for earnings of $4.91 million. The Vinery champion will stand for a $66,000 (inc gst) service fee this year.
