More Than Ready sprinter Regally Ready rolled to another stakes win in the race named after his sire at Kentucky Downs on Saturday.
Regally Ready improved his record to 15 wins in 36 starts with a two length victory in the $200,000 More Than Ready Mile at Kentucky Downs. He chased Stormy Going from the start before collaring the front-runner and going clear to clock a tick outside the turf track record set by Rob ‘n Gin back in 1998.
“He’s just an amazing, extremely versatile, fun horse,” trainer Steve Asmussen said. “There’s no signs of him slowing down and he’s been so effective as a miler since we stretched him out from sprints.”
Kentucky Downs renamed its signature turf mile this year after Vinery champion More Than Ready. It was formerly known as the Franklin Mile in honour of USA Founding Father Benjamin Franklin.
Regally Ready (7g More Than Ready – Kivi by King of Kings) first came to prominence back in 2011 with Group 1 victories in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs and Nearctic Stakes at Woodbine.
The old pro was coming off a Mountaineer Park win where he earned an impressive 108 Beyer Speed Figure and that followed his most recent black-type victory in the LR Opening Verse Stakes at Churchill Downs.
Regally Ready is a Vinery homebred and banked $120,140 on Saturday to lift his career earnings to over $1.60 million. His dam Kivi (King Of Kings) won at Saint-Cloud, second dam Vilikaia (Nureyev) was classic-placed and his third dam is influential producer Baracala (Swaps).
