“REGALLY Ready still has it.” – The respected Daily Racing Form said it best when lauding the seven-year-old son of More Than Ready’s astonishing 12 and a half lengths win in the $100,000 West Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Cup (1m 70y) in the USA on Saturday.
Owned by Vinery stable, Regally Ready has won 14 of his 35 starts with earnings of nearly $1.5m due in no small part to his 2011 Grade 1 Nearctic Stakes (6f or 1200m) triumph at Woodbine in Canada.
More Than Ready progeny have been equally profficient on both grass and dirt which proved crucial for Regall Ready when his race was moved from the turf to the dirt.
That said, it was only the second time in his lengthy career that Regally Ready was running on dirt but you’d never have know with poised ominously behind the speed before switching across heels at the top of the lane and streaking away with an ever increasingly margin that reached more than a dozen at the finishing pole.
Regally Ready is among 129 stakeswinner sired by More Than Ready and one of more than 1200 individual winners around the globe.
“He has been a great horse for Vinery,” says Conor Phelan, “Regally Ready has raced at the highest level throughout his career and won a Grade 1 as well as the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in 2010. That was the same year that More Than Ready won both legs of the Juvenile Division, the colts’ race with Pluck.
“We know More Than Ready is probably the best 2YO sire in the world today but we can’t forget horses like Regally Ready and More Joyous and plenty of others that train on year in year out,” Phelan added.
