VINERY foundation sire Red Ransom is beginning to emerge as future broodmare sire of considerable quality with a handful of early results highlighting the fact.

The Chris Waller trained 2YO Fundido (by Lonhro) created a big impression when he won on debut at Rosehill last month and shapes a serious contender for the 2012 Golden Slipper and it’s various lead-ups.

Red Ransom is also the broodmare sire of recent Listed WATC Fairetha Plate (1400m) winner Ron’s Call – a son of Magic Albert and winner of 4 races from 9 starts.

”Red Ransom is very young in terms of a broodmare sire in Australia but it would seem obvious that the reasons behind him being such a tremendous sire here – the outcross – is going to work on the bottom line of pedigree as well,” Vinery’s Conor Phelan said.

While there is a long way to go for Red Ransom given that some sires are still very active in the broodmare sires ranks up to 20 years after their own passing, his effect as a sire of sires is already being felt.

”Both Charge Forward and Domesday have been very successful in Australia and they are a lot more to come over the next few season,” says Phelan.

Top of the list is Vinery’s own Onemorenomore, Red Ransom’s only Group 1 winning 2YO, and holder of a superlative pedigree and physique.

”He’s foals are being acclaimed as some of the best in the Hunter, they are very good looking horses and have plenty of size and bone to go with it. They are going to develop into very nice yearlings and racehorses.”
