BENICIO 3YO Cuban Sunday is already beginning to live up his ‘classic’ pedigree in just his second preparation outstaying his rivals to win over 1894m at Kyneton yesterday.

The Mick Price-trained gelding had sufficient class to win well on debut as a late two-year-old over 1213m at Sale (by 1.8-lens), not unlike his sire who won at Bendigo by 4.5-lens at his second career start before placing fifth in the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

”Cuban Sunday has handed in some promising run’s before yesterday’s win, you could see that he was close to a win, he was stepping up in distance and in benchmark from his last run but handled it well,” says Vinery’s Conor Phelan. “He may have a future”.

”As well as being by Benicio, who won the VRC Derby, his dam Magical Sunday is a Sunday Silence sister to Tayasu Tsuyoshi who won the Japan Derby and sired VRC Oaks winner, Hollow Bullet.

”Cuban Sunday has a genuine classic pedigree and looks to have a bright future as he matures.”

Meanwhile Price is expecting a bold showing by Testa Rossa gelding Testa My Patience who runs in today’s MRC The Cove Hotel Handicap (1400m) at Sandown-Lakeside.

”He’s going well. He’s on his way up to 1600 metres and I’ve tried to keep him fresh for the 1400 metres,” the Caulfield-based trainer told AAP.

”It looks a winnable race for him. He’ll hit the line pretty well again and I’m hoping I’ve got him fresh enough second-up because he’s had a 1300-metre run which is not his distance.

”He’s a nice horse on the up and I’ve tried to keep him fresh and make it two out of two this preparation.”

Testa My Patience has won twice and been placed in another three of his six starts, finishing fourth at his only other outing.

Price said after his initial racing campaign of four starts, Testa My Patience had stifle surgery and was sidelined for eight months.

”When he came back he raced on a heavy track at Moe and pulled a muscle so I had to spell him again,” he said.

Five months after being beaten into third place as favourite to Alannan Lad in a rating 68 1200m event at Moe on August 31 last year, he resumed by winning at Sandown with Craig Newitt in the saddle.
