More Than Ready filly Partisan Politics showed a new dimension to win the Listed Pebbles Stakes (1600m) at Belmont Park on Monday.
She unleashed a powerful late kick in front of a Columbus Day crowd in New York to defeat Devine Aida (Unbridled’s Song) and another More Than Ready in Consumer Credit. It was her second black-type on turf following the Listed P G Johnson Stakes (1700m) at Saratoga last year.
“She broke well out of the gate into a great stalking position,” jockey Javier Castellano said. “That set it up perfect for my horse. She’s a really nice filly.”
Partisan Politics entered the $200,000 Pebbles off a narrow loss to Stormy Regatta in the Risakaverse Stakes at Saratoga in August. “Javier gave her a great trip,” trainer Chad Brown said. “She prefers to have a target to run at and might’ve made the lead a little soon, but she finished off real well.”
Partisan Politics (3f More Than Ready – Bluegrass Princess by Dynaformer) was purchased Seth Klarman and William Lawrence for $175,000 at the 2013 Keeneland September yearling sale. She the first foal of a mare who was stakes placed at Saratoga, Belmont and Gulfstream Park.
Vinery champion More Than Ready was also in frame as a damsire when Surfside Tiara claimed the LR Anoakia Stakes (1200m) at Santa Anita on Sunday. She is by rising star Scat Daddy from Starlight Tiara (More Than Ready), a close relation of 2000 Santa Anita Oaks winner Surfside (Seattle Slew).
