BREEDERS Cup Turf Sprint winner, Regally Ready is poised to make a stunning return to form in this weekend’s $1m Al Quoz Sprint (1000m) in Dubai against Singapore based Better Be The One.
A Grade 1 winner in Canada last preparation, Regally Ready was well below his best at his first in Dubai appearance when finishing down the track in the Meydan Sprint on March 13 but put in a stunning gallop on Wednesday.
”I don’t even want to say because his last race was so puzzling,” Devron Leingang, co-assistant trainer to Steve Asmussen told Brisnet. You have expectations going in, but I guess it just wasn’t our day.
“We are just hoping that the flight took a little something off of him or the course was a little bit softer, but no excuses but he is a little stronger now than before.”
Regally Ready proved that all was well ahead of his Saturday night (local time) finale with a superb trackwork session at Meydan in the middle of the week.
”It was a good work,” Leingang said. “He was nice and relaxed. They had the markers way out near the outside rail. (Co-assistant trainer) Scott Blasi and I had him in :25 and change for the last quarter. He was right in there, right where we want him to be.”
Regally Ready will be joined in his Al Quoz quest by another More Than Ready sprinter, the Australian-bred/Singapore-based Better Be The One who placed third in this race last year.
Reigning favourite for the race is Testa Rossa mare, Ortensia, who will is in Dubai on her way to Royal Ascot for the Kings Stand Stakes in July.
