The Paul Messara stable has booked William Buick to partner Ortensia in Saturday’s Group I July Cup (1200m) at Newmarket.
Buick was the leading jockey in the recent Royal Ascot carnival and piloted Nathaniel to victory in Saturday’s Group I Eclipse Stakes.
“William Buick will take the reins and he knows the track well,” stable foreman Barry Wyntle said.
Ortensia finished ninth in the Group I King’s Stand Stakes at her most recent run after copping a buffeting up the Ascot straight.
“She ran her race before they jumped and then got hammered during the run,” Wyntle added.
“Her raceday manners were the main problem.”
Ortenisa’s work last Friday morning prompted her trackwork jockey Michael Hill to declare the daughter of Testa Rossa “ready” for Saturday’s race.
“He (Hill) jumped off and said he couldn’t see how she got beaten last start,” he said.
“He described her as powerful and said she’ll be right in it on Saturday
