RANDWICK mare Ofcoursiecan’s thrilling win in the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic (1500m) capped off an extraordinary day for Vinery Stud sires who dominated the opening day of the 2012 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
Vinery Stud flag bearer More Than Ready sired a double beginning with Samaready’s easy 2-lens win in the Riesling followed soon after by glamour mare More Joyous’ heroic defence of her Canterbury Stakes after a long absence from the racetrack.
Ofcoursiecan’s well earned win was a milestone for Mossman – his first Group 1 winner.
Mind you, that honour could well have come earlier this month but for five times Group 1 placed Buffering’s nose defeat in the $1m VRC Newmarket Handicap.
But take nothing away from Ofcoursiecan who has taken herself to a new level in recent time winning a Group 3 and Group 1 in consecutive starts.
Her Coolmore win delivers an unbelievable boost to her value, the David Bentata bred/owned mare boasts a superb pedigree.
Her More Than Ready half-brother, the Australian-bred Gimmethegreenlight, was one of South Africa’s leading 2YO’s last seasons and has since trained on to win a Group 1.
”Mossman has been a remarkably consistent sire throughout his career despite small books early on and life threatening colic surgery. He’s always been able to bounce back and get more than his share of winners,” says Vinery’s Conor Phelan.
”He is a very consistent sire, his winners-to-runners has is well above average regardless of whether he covered a book of 40 or 100, he is a stallion that will just get a good horse despite mare quantity or quality. Most of his stakes winners have come in the past two or three seasons which is a result of greater opportunity rather than better mare’s as Mossman is the type of stallino that gets winners from nothing.
“He might not be in the top ten stallions like Testa Rossa or More Than Ready but in my opinion, Mossman is one of the best in our stallion ranks.”
Mossman is the sire of 18 stakes winners and 13 stakes placed horses including; Ofcoursiecan, Buffering, Triple Elegance, Neeson, Love Conquers All, Under The Eiffel and Golden Slipper runner-up, Pure Energy.
