Following Euro Charline‘s Gr.1 victory in the U.S. last year, a lightly raced Myboycharlie 2yo has topped the Barrett’s Paddock Sale and will continue his racing career in America.

The French two-year-old Mr Notorious, first and second in two runs at La Teste last month, topped Saturday’s Barretts Paddock Sale, after racing at Del Mar.

The son of Myboycharlie left France last week and had quite an arduous journey via Frankfurt and Chicago on his way to Los Angeles, and arrived at the venue the night before the sale. Consigned by Con and Teresa Marnane but sold through Kim McCarthy’s McCarthy Bloodstock, the colt was snapped up by trainer Jim Cassidy and owner Deron Pearson for a sale-topping $200,000 and will continue his racing career in the colours of DP Racing.

Qualified for the Breeders’ Cup, Mr Notorious is the second foal of the unraced Hennessy mare Isola Tiberina, whose dam Trampoli (Trempolino) was a Gr.3 winner in France and won five further Graded Stakes races in the US. She is a half-sister to the US Gr.1 winner and sire Roi Normand and to the dam of the Gr.1-winning filly Coquerelle.

Cassidy has trained another ex-European, Prize Exhibit (Showcasing), to win two Graded Stakes in California this summer. The unraced three-year-old filly Out Ofthe Ordinary(Vronsky), from the family of the multiple US Gr.1 winner and sire Acclamation, was signed for by trainer Brian Koriner on behalf of a partnership headed by E-Racing.com and Janet Lyons. Her price of $90,000 was the second highest at the auction.

Two other European-breds were offered for sale and each changed hands for $35,000.

This was the fourth edition of the sale and 19 horses were sold on Saturday for $728,500, producing an average of $38,342.

“It’s hard to compare year to year, depending on the type of horses you have to sell,” said Kim Lloyd, General Manager of Barretts. “We enjoyed the energy of the event, which was well-attended. We were very pleased with the results of the European colt and are looking forward to him racing later in the meeting.”
