VINERY Stud resident Myboycharlie was the stunning success among the first season sires at the 2012 Magic Millions sale on the Gold Coast after his yearlings sold at an average of $121,000 making him the most popular and profitable first season sire at the sale.

Myboycharlie had 100% clearance of his stock with 10 yearlings averaging $121,000 off an affordable debut service fee of just $14,300.   His top seller was $170,000, which was paid by Mick Kent for a colt (pictured above) from Fidelias Dance (GB) offered by Southern Cross Breeders.

The competition for the Myboycharlie yearlings, colts and fillies, remained constant throughout the four sessions of the sale.

“Most of the studs would be quite happy with the way their first season sires sold but from a vendors and breeder’s point of view what matters is service to price ratio and Myboycharlie was the clear winner in that category with 8.5 times service fee” says Vinery Stud’s Adam White.

Stamped like peas in a pod, the Myboycharlie’s offered were strong athletic bays in the Danehill mould as they should be, given Myboycharlie (pictured) is by the ill-fated Danehill sire Danetime (IRE), whose stud career was cut prematurely short after just a few seasons at stud.

He’s also from a familiar European Black Type family that features one particular branch that has been very successful in Australia producing the Group I winner Snowland, Group II winner Portillo and the useful sire Snippetson, so there were a number of reasons why buyers were prepared to look very hard at the Myboycharlie stock.

“There was no great spread in prices for the ‘Charlie’s up here which attests to the fact that they are very similar horses in type – he throws a consistent, strong bodied, good boned, athletic style of horse that really appeals to trainer’s and buyer’s with an eye for an early type” White commented.

“Gai Waterhouse is going to train three of them, while the others were sold to David Hayes, Anthony Freedman, John Sadler, David Payne and Cliff Brown bought one to take back to Singapore.”

Myboycharlie has six lots in the 2012 Inglis Classic Yearling sale scheduled for January 22,23 & 24 at Newmarket in Sydney.

“The Classic is a renowned ‘type-sale’ so I would imagine that his yearlings are going to given every consideration by the buyers,” White said.

Myboycharlie was a high class racehorse who won four of his nine starts highlighted by the Group 1 Prix Morny (1200m) by 2-lens and the Angelsey Stakes (1200m) by 7-lens.
He was crowned Champion 2YO Colt in France in 2007.

“Myboycharlie was a very fast and precocious two-year-old who won up to a mile,” White said,”he is a grandson of Danehill and from a very good female family which includes several Group 1 sires.”
