MOSSMAN will have two chances to emulate associate sire More Than Ready and win his first Magic Millions 2YO Classic this weekend after the final field was declared at the Gold Coast this morning.
A former Group One winning two-year-old in Queensland himself, Mossman is represented in the $2 million feature by Toowoomba galloper, Double Impact, as well as Barry Baldwin’s diminutive colt, Racing Stripes.
Both horses have proven to be bargain buys costing a combined total of less than $50,000.
Double Impact was bought by managing owner Jimmy Georgiou for $35,000 at the Magic Millions Summer session in January last year.
The horse was offered by Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud.
Double Impact has so far earned $93,000 from just four starts, winning his first two before placing a close-up third in the Listed BRC Phelan Ready (1000m) last month.
Eagle Farm boarder Racing Stripes was knocked down at the same sale to prominent trainer Barry Baldwin for just $11,000.
The chestnut earned his berth with an impressive debut win at Eagle Farm over 1000m.
”Mossman has been going great guns for a long while now, and to win a Magic Millions would be a great feather in his cap,” Vinery’s Conor Phelan said.
”Neither horse cost much money at all, so it’s a credit to them and their respective trainers that they are now in the running for $2 million against almost a 1000 other hopefuls.”
Mossman’s associate sire, More Than Ready, sired consecutive winners of the Magic Millions – Augusta Proud in 2008 followed by Phelan Ready in 2009.
