Vinery champion More Than Ready topped Day 1 of the NZB Karaka Premier Sale with a $470,000 colt from Group 2 winning mare Lovetrista.
The first-session leader was offered by Cambridge Stud and was knocked down to Melbourne trainer Peter Moody. “This particular colt took my eye when I looked at him on Wednesday. I saw him on the farm as a young horse and I’ve seen how much he’s come on so I was very taken with him.”
Lovetrista (Rock Of Gibraltar) is a three-quarter sister to Viking Ruler (G1 Spring Champion Stakes) and Kempinsky (G2 AAMI Vase) from the family of celebrated broodmare Eight Carat.
“He’s by a stallion that has been delivering for a number of years out of that wonderful family of Sir Patrick Hogan’s,” Moody added. “I probably paid over the odds but that’s what you do to get these good colts. We really wanted to have him in our yard.”
More Than Ready has supplied many winners for Moody over the years including Ready To Rip who earned over $600,000 in a career highlighted by a Group 3 victory in the 2012 Bletchingly Stakes.
NZ Bloodstock reported the Day 1 figures were almost exactly in line with last year’s Premier Sale statistics, with the average price increasing slightly to $145,866 at a clearance rate of 74%
