More Than Ready’s Australian-bred son Gimmethegreenlight is gunning for a second successive Group 1 win when he tackles the J&B Metropolitan at Kenilworth in South Africa this weekend.
The half brother to local stakeswinner and Mossman daughter Ofcourseican took out one of the nation’s most prestigious Group 1 races when he gathered in his rivals to claim the Group 1 Queen’s Plate (1600m) at his most recent outing.
Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready – Yes She Can Cancan) was sold by Vinery Stud (as agent) for $155,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions National (Weanling) sale on the Gold Coast.
Meanwhile, More Than Ready duo Cambiaso and Huegill are set to make their autumn return on a power packed Caulfield Australia day card while South African gun Gimmethegreenlight gears up for another Group 1 scalp days later.
The Danny O’Brien trained Cambiaso is aiming to repeat the efforts of Darley colt Sepoy who was able to add the Blue Diamond Stakes to his Maribyrnong Plate triumph at his one and only outing as a spring two-year-old.
O’Brien has chosen an orthodox path into the million dollar feature electing to kick Cambiaso off in the Blue Diamond Prelude (1000m) before making his way towards the big one on at Caulfield next month.
One obstacle in his way may be the Mossman colt The Travelling Man which raced greenly on debut when fourth in the Listed Debutante Stakes but still showed enough to suspect he has above average talent.
Meanwhile, superbly bred colt Huegill has been heavily backed to win this Saturday’s Zeditave Stakes (1200m) in what will be his first appearance since finishing third in the Group 1 MRC Caulfield Guineas (1600m).
“He’s returned in great shape. We spelled him after his good third in the Caulfield Guineas,” Huegill’s trainer Peter Moody said.
“He was an immature type of colt but he’s really furnished out nicely with his spring-summer break.
“I think he’s going to be at his best at a mile, maybe even a mile-and-a-quarter.
“But being big and strong and fresh and happy, I think he’ll run very well in the Zeditave.”
