VINERY Stud stallion More Than Ready has become the first stallion to be crowned Champion Sire of 2YO’s in the USA and Australia after clean sweeping both divisions of 2010 Breeders’ Juvenile during November.
The wins by More Than Real (fillies) and recent Vinery Australia acquisition Pluck (colts/geldings) ensured that More Than Ready ended the Northern Hemisphere season in top spot on the USA rankings.
More Than Ready’s latest award confirms his reputation as a peerless sire of juveniles.
His other honours include Australia’s Champion Sire of 2YO’s (twice), Champion First Season Sire and is among an elite band to have sired more than one Golden Slipper winner.
More Than Ready also sired consecutive Magic Millions winners in 2008 and 2009.
His elevation to world’s best sire of two-year-olds is part of the reason why he is the most represented stallion at next week’s Magic Millions Yearling sale on the Gold Coast.
In all, the grandson of Halo has 43 yearlings on offer at the Gold Coast.
”The essence of this industry is the precocity of our stock and it is becoming more of a world-wide trend,” says Vinery Stud general manager Peter Orton.
”Not necessarily just pure two-year-olds, our market calls for horses to be more immediate, to show genuine precocity yet also have depth of pedigree to train on as older horses and More Than Ready as a sire has certainly shown his progeny have the class to do just that. He has six, seven and eight-year-olds from his first crop’s still winning at Stakes level, so he isn’t just a two-year-old sire.
”More Joyous was a brilliant two-year-old but trained on to be the champion three-year-old and won two Group One’s including one at weight-for-age, as a four-year-old, More Strawberries looks to follow her lead and Teasing, a mare from his first crop won her first Stakes race (STC Missile Stakes defeating Gold Trail and Typhoon Zed) as a seven yr old.”
