More Than Ready filly Consumer Credit pounced late to land more back-type in the G3 Sweetest Chant Stakes (1600m) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.
It was the second turf win for Chad Brown’s charge after her comprehensive victory in the LR Wait a While Stakes at the same venue in November.
Front-runners Miss Temple City and Quality Rocks had forged clear in the straight on Saturday but Consumer Credit suddenly responded to win running away by a length. “It all worked out in the end,” jockey Edgard Zayas said. “I had a ton of horse under me at the wire.”
Brown has now sent out the last four winners of the Sweetest Chant: More Than Ready filly Ready to Act (2014), Premier Steps (2013) and champion female turf horse Dayatthespa (2012).
“We think she’s a horse with a ton of ability,” Brown said after his filly completed a winning hat-trick. “She’s a good-looker and she’s well bred. We’ve always liked her.
Consumer Credit (3f More Than Ready – Sally Bowles by London News) has won 3 times in 5 starts for Brown and Klaravich Stables owner Seth Klarman. “She had some bad luck early. She got buried in traffic in her debut and should have won. Then she had to run in the mud and still finished second before winning her maiden at Belmont.”
A $185,000 graduate of the 2013 Keeneland September yearling sale, she is from South African Group 2 winner Sally Bowles.
Consumer Credit completed a double for the Vinery champion after the first-up victory of Bollente earlier in the day at Gulfstream Park. The Mark Casse trained colt was backed off the map on debut at Del Mar in July but was never a factor after blowing the start.
Bollente (3c More Than Ready – Coya by Deputy Minister) missed the kick again second-up after a 180 day break before powering home to get up in the final strides. He was a $550,000 buy for owner John Oxley at the 2014 Ocala 2YO Sale.
The Florida double backed up a More Than Ready brace at Randwick on Saturday courtesy of Centre Pivot and Mihiri. The latter is trained by Team Hawkes and they are currently inspecting yearlings for the NZB Karaka Sale starting on Monday.
More Than Ready has two lots at the Premier Sale; a colt from G2 Waikato Cup winner Lovetrista (Lot 37) and a filly out of G1 NZ 1000 Guineas winner Insouciant (Lot 435).
