The Group I MVRC William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night features a very competitive field with one of the more interesting runners being talented Husson mare Peron – Breednet reports.
Peron is chasing her first Group I win for new owner Fairway Thoroughbreds, breeders of Golden Slipper hero Vancouver.
The five year-old daughter of Husson (Arg) was previously raced by Patinack Farm, who purchased her as a yearling at Magic Millions for $80,000 from the draft of Widden Stud.
She proved very successful in the care of John Thompson winning six races from 16 starts with a feature win in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich as well as posting Group placings at Flemington and Rosehill.
Sold as part of the Patinack Farm Dispersal last year for $610,000, she was snapped up by Segenhoe Thoroughbreds on behalf of John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds and sent to Peter Moody.
An unlucky second to Chloe in Paris at Flemington in a Listed race at her first run for her new connections on March 7, Peron looks primed for her Group I assignment tonight and will start from gate one with Ben Melham in the saddle.
A Group I win would be the icing on the cake for Peron, who has a lovely pedigree being a half-sister to stakes-winning mares Gai’s Choice and Atmospherical from stakes-placed Flying Spur mare Faster Pussycat.
A three-quarter sister to the dam of Group I winner Eagle Falls and Group III winner Mahara, Faster Pussycat has a yearling filly be Sepoy headed to the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
