PROMISING More Than Ready colt Huegill returns to the track and is threatening to dislodge VRC Sires’ Produce winner Running Tall as favourite to take out tomorrow’s Mitchell McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
Running Tall is presently quoted at $4.20 but a flood of interest in the Peter Moody trained colt has seen his price cut down to $4.80.
Moody scratched Huegill from the metropolitan meeting at Mornington last Wednesday due to the deteriorating track conditions to save him for the Listed 1200m event.
As it turned out the Mornington 1016m race was one of three races abandoned due to poor visibility.
”I’ve got great belief in this colt. He was placed behind Sepoy at his only run,” Moody said of Huegill.
”I think he’s going to measure up in Group races and in a very short space of time.
”I was looking at Mornington as an opportunity for a soft kill.
”I think the More Than Ready’s usually handle it, but I wasn’t prepared to risk him on the heavy.”
Huegill races in the familiar colours of popular Scone owner/breeder Stuart Ramsey who has a long standing and high successful relationship with Moody.
Huegill is the first foal out of Turranga Stud’s former South African Group 1 winning two-year-old, Trust Antonia, whose half brothers Successful Bidder and Gold Flier were also crowned Champions in the republic.
Trust Antonia foaled a More Than Ready colt in 2010 and is due to deliver another son or daughter of Vinery’s multiple champion sire this spring.
