RANDWICK trainer John O’Shea has announced plans to chase a $100,000 bonus with promising Mossman galloper Hendricus who scored an easy first-up win at Kensington today.
The handsome 3YO has already won one Inglis bonus, at Wagga Wagga on Cup day last year, a run bookended but metro placings behind quality horses.
Hendricus was sent out as the overwhelming favourite to win today’s Clovelly Handicap (1100m) after two ominous barrier trials set the groundwork for a winning return.
The 3YO found the box-seat in the five horse field, peeling off the leaders back at the top of the stretch and quickly putting the issue beyond doubt.
”He is probably a little bit better chasing them and coming with a late run but when they are $1.50 you don’t want to be riding them pretty,” O’Shea said.
”He’s had a good hit-out and I would say he’ll improve from that.
”(His) owners have got great enthusiasm and really enjoy it and good luck to them, they’ve bought a nice horse and they’re having a great deal of fun with him.”
