IT’S been a massive week in the life of well known owner/breeder Bob Hannon on and off the track.
Hannon teamed-up with Newcastle trainer Kris Lees to take out the Group 3 VRC Gucci Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on Oaks day with home-bred filly Onemorezeta.
Meanwhile, back home at Hannon’s boutique Ascot Farm nursery, resident mare Sunset Express foaled a full-brother to 2013 Cox Plate winner Shamus Award.
“He’s by like Snitzel, he’s got plety of leg on him – he’s a cracker,” Hannon said.
Onemorezeta’s rise to prominence has been as dramatic as it has rapid given that a month before her Flemington triumph she had won a Muswellbrook maiden.
Now the daughter of Onemorenomore has three wins from her four starts and is tipped to be one of the stars fillies of the autumn.
“She’s back at the farm and you wouldn’t know she’s been around,” Hannon said, ”I said to Kris we could sneak her off down to Hawkesbury and win a race with her instead of her spelling, she’s that tough, honestly, she’s unbelievable.
“She came up against a class field and was running down the straight so she had a lof of challenges to deal with with but she sort of handled it pretty good, she still did a few things wrong but she knows how to gallop and get to the line.”
Onemorezeta is the second foal of Hannon’s Commands mare, Little Zeta, whose next three offspring are by Vinery shuttler Myboycharlie.
Little Zeta’s Myboycharlie yearling filly will go to the Inglis Classic Sale in January.
Little Zeta is back in foal to Onemorenonore.
Onemorezeta is from the first crop of Vinery resident and Group 1 miler Onemorenomore who is also represented at present by quality stakes 3YO’s Purcentage (in New Zealand) and W.A Guineas hopeful Tonto.
